About the founder

Hello pilgrims!

My name is Sophie and I am the owner and founder of My Camino Designs. I opened the shop in the spring of 2018, when I lived in Santiago de Compostela. I've had another shop (www.wildabandondesigns.com) for a long time, but living in Santiago and seeing pilgrims every day and talking to them inspired me to create something specific for the people of the Camino. I came to Santiago in March 2017, even though this was not a traditional pilgrimage. After the collapse of my marriage, I simply needed a place to live - and a refuge. So, I packed so many personal items as fit in my backpack and flew to Santiago. I still have no explanation for why I chose this place - it just called me. I have lived in this incredible city for a year and a half and have gone several times on different routes of the Camino. It is a very special experience when the destination of your camino is Santiago - your home. Not many pilgrims make that experience, but it felt right to me. Santiago was the place to which I belonged. Santiago saved me at this stage of my life when I had nothing but my backpack and a little ray of hope in my heart. Santiago cared for me and protected me like a loving mother - until the day I was ready to move on. Now that my work is about creating something for pilgrims, it feels like I can finally give something back. It is a great honor for me to receive feedback from happy pilgrims or see my products being used on the Camino. It connects me with Santiago and the pilgrim feeling, even when I'm not there. I believe that anyone coming to Santiago will leave some of their heart there - maybe it's the many hearts that make this place so magical.
